Bright Butterfly Hypnotherapy and Coaching

Helping you to make Changes in your life

About me

Hello, I am Joanna Cook, a Clinical Hypnotherapist Practitioner, advanced BWRT practitioner and Coach. I am known by as Jo by everyone other than my mum.

I started my career in Retail Management at the age of 18, working in the shoe business, I then spent 20 years working in various Human resource roles, the majority of it in retail. During this time, I completed a Post Graduate degree at Manchester and qualified as a “Chartered member of the CIPD” with specialism in Learning and development.

As well as helping teams and individuals to develop; my background in HR, allows me to understand the challenges that you may be facing personally and professionally in the working environment.

Personal development and personal growth have always been a passion throughout my career, I have taken big leaps of faith myself, taken new directions and challenges. The most challenging was to start a business, I have a little mantra that “my past has brought me to my present,” which has really inspired me to follow my path.

So Bright Butterfly, was born on a ‘mood board’ designed by my “business manager, consultant and sound engineer, critic and chief supporter,” Alice, my 14-year-old daughter. We both love the symbol of the butterfly. The joy and colour they bring into our lives, teaching us that growth and transformation can occur gently and beautifully and that it is also necessary.

I understand this deeply, as life’s challenges, health issues and traumas have now brought me to working in Hypnotherapy and Coaching. I have experienced the power of the human mind and learnt; that I could let go of anxiety, negative emotions and be healthy and confident and at ease with myself, situations and life…. And lose weight!

In addition to my experience and qualifications; I believe this life experience enables a relationship of compassion, integrity and flexibility with my clients.

Our big love in life is our gorgeous cocker spaniel, Spencer; we enjoy going for walks either local to us at Biddulph Grange Country Park or exploring a bit further into the Peak or over to Chester.

I am also an Advanced BWRT® practitioner.  Hypnotherapy, Coaching and BWRT® can have life changing possibilities for physical and mental problems. Be the Bright Butterfly and Believe in Change.

Choosing a therapist

Choosing a therapist is important to you, as well as having the right qualifications to help you with your challenges, it is vital to have the right level of rapport.a

Look for their qualifications and continuing development to enhance expertise and knowledge of their field.

Look for a therapist that has HPD (Dip Hyp) after their name. This stands for Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma, which is an externally verified examination, accredited by the National council for Hypnotherapists (NCH).  Once this has been achieved the logo can be displayed.  The HPD conforms to National Occupational Standards for Hypnotherapy and NCH code of Ethics.  This means that the therapist who has this qualification conforms to the standards here in the UK, including completing supervision and continuing with professional development.

They should also be registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare council (CNHC) and have their registration number on their website.  The CNHC is the UK regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners.  The department of health has recommended that where the CNHC registers the professional discipline, you consult with someone who is CNHC registered.

FAQ

You will be very relaxed and you will be able to hear and respond at all times.  Some people experience sensations on their skin or tingling in their hands or feet.  Some experience seeing different colours or light.  On awakening most clients feel relaxed but also motivated.

No. You will be very relaxed but you will be able to hear and respond and can come out of hypnosis any time you want.

No. You are always in control and aware of what is happening. Your subconscious mind will always protect you and would not allow you to do or say anything that is inappropriate. You can open your eyes and end the session at any time. Clinical hypnosis is very different to stage hypnosis, such that you see on TV.

This depends on your problem. If you are clear about the changes you want, you may need less sessions. Some problems, such as quitting smoking, can be resolved in a single session; most other problems usually require two or three sessions. Problems such as low self-esteem or anxiety may be more complex issues and these can take several sessions to resolve. I aim with each session is to help you improve your situation as rapidly as possible.

The associations are professional bodies that hold registers of independent practitioners, they ensure all therapists are trained, provide supervision and ongoing training and CPD and uphold the code of ethics.

CNHC was set up with government support to protect the public by providing a UK voluntary register of complementary therapists. CNHC’s register has been approved as an Accredited Voluntary Register by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care. CNHC registered complementary therapy practitioners demonstrate to members of the general public and other healthcare providers that they conform to national standards of practice in their work. Accredited Voluntary Register: This provides additional assurance that CNHC registrants meet the standards of patient safety and service quality.  My registration number is 00046-L14
